Week 5: Self Esteem!!!
There are four different self esteems that children have at age eight they are; academic competence, social competence, physical and athletic competence, and physical appearance. Some of the influences on a child's self esteem are; culture, child rearing, achievement-related attributions, influences on achievement-related attributions, and promoting mastery-oriented attributions. People that have high self esteem tend to be well adjusted, but the people that have low self esteem tent to have anxiety, depression, and antisocial behavior.

Week 4: Supporting Literacy and Math development!!
There are many things you can do to support your child's development in literacy and math. Mathematical inference just like literacy helps build on naive awareness. When your child reaches 14 and 16 months old, toddlers show an understanding about ordinality. By age three in a half to four, maximum children can count all the way up to ten, and in the right order and the meaning of the numbers, they also grasp the meaning of cardinality. To help your child with math I would suggest to get food and count out each one by separating them into piles. You can also count out each bite he or she takes, count how many fingers and toes he or she has, give the child a book that has numbers in it and tells a story as you go. There are many ways to help your child in math it depends on you and your child and how they are able to learn. To support your child's development in early child literacy you should; provide literacy-rich home and preschool environment, engage in interactive book reading, provide outings to libraries, museums, Parks, zoos, and other group and education settings, point out letters, sound resemblance, play a rhyming and other language sound-games, also read rhyming poems and stories, recommend that the children writes, most of all the narrative products, and model literacy activity's. Because above time children's language and literacy advance simplify on another.

Sensitive periods in Brain development!! HD9
The sensitive periods of brain development is so important because and environmentof early childhood effects the overall brain growth. All infants should not be deprived of normal nurture experiences and stimulation that can shock their brains and competencies. The longer a person waits to have surgery on their infants clouded lenses the more it effects the infants recovery of visual skills. There are also studies that if a infant is placed in an orphanage they are later exposed to ordinary family background verify the greatness of stimulation physically and their social environment in many territory's. Some children or infants that are adopted shortly after birth can develop extreme stress, this can concentrate a stress hormone called cortisol in their saliva- this can further effect the child by an illness, retarded physical growth, behavior problems, and even attention, control of anger and maybe even other impulses. Usually a child that spends more time in an orphanage the higher level their cortisol level can get- it can also acure six and a half year after adoption. Rushing early learning on to your child can damage or harm the brain by overwhelming its neural circuits, so if you reduce a child's or infants brain sensitivity to everyday live, activity's, family, friends, opportunity's, and experiences that it needs for a vigorous beginning to existence.

Advice to a friend!!! Week 2, Human Dev.
Well I would have to tell them that the need to look at there genetics on both sides of the family such as; hair color, eye color, health problems such as; cancer, HIV, AIDS, deaths, alcoholism, birth defects, learning disabilities, behavior disorders, and mental retardation. There are many things advantages of parenthood such as; the affection given and received, stimulation from your child, learning opportunities, experiencing growth, having someone to look after you as you get older, and having someone carry your genes once you are gone. Some disadvantages are; being ties down constantly, financial strain, family versus work, worrying about your child's health, safety and well being, less privacy, and no time for you and your spouse for alone time. The way your child is created is; if you are ovulating which means that the egg drops from your ovary's to your fallopian tube, then once the sperm is released from your husband they will travel up and hopefully fertilize your egg and if you are really lucky it will implant in you uterus. Conception is a three day process, the most changes are in the first 38 weeks. Pregnancy is a very wonderful experience and every women is different of what they go through. The chromosome pairs seperate into different cells, but chance determines which member of each pair will gather from other chromosomes and end up in the same gamete. In conclusion each chromosome discards its partner and becomes part of gamere containing no more than 23 chromosomes as a replacement for the normal 46 chromosomes. A sex chromosomes in females is XX and in males is XY. The female contributes an X and the male either contributes a X or an Y which your husbands contribution will determin if it will be a boy XY or girl XX.

week 16!!!
I actually enjoyed the whole class. Everything we went over was very interesting and I think most of the stuff I will never forget. I am going to take more Human Development classes and even some sociology classes. I think the advice I would have to tell a future student is for the quizes and exams you have to study, you need to read, and you need to take notes. When the test comes up actually use your notes, lecture, book, and everything else given during class. Print out everything, it may be a waist of paper, but it helps in a long run. A good teacher also is in need to make a good class, and I believe Mrs. Seeley is a winner. Hope you enjoyed the class as much as I did. Have a good summer, hope to see you all in another online class.

Wee14!!!
(a.) What is the “sandwich generation??” What are some of the challenges that people of this generation face?? Is the empty nest stage more of a myth or a reality for many middle aged parents??
A sandwich generation is when middle aged adults have pressure on themselves of the responsibilities for their children and their elderly relatives. The challenges one might face in a sandwich generation is they must meet the challenges of their own life, dealing with their own aging, and dealing with their retirement coming up. But because of the economy more parents have to support their children and their elderly relatives. They are more likely going to handle not only their finance but their children’s and their elderly parents. Yes, the empty nest stage is just a myth more then reality for more and more of middle-aged parents. According to a recent study 44% of adults in the range of 45 and 55 find themselves still supporting their children as well as their aging relatives. Which does not leave our life’s with much of an exploration time till we die. I do not like the sound of that, if our lives are pretty much over when our parents get to old to take care of themselves and it is too expensive for our children to go and live on their own. What is our future like? It definitely will not be the time to go and explore the world, have time to ourselves, and just to buy something on an occasion. When will the economy realize what the people has done to it and change its bad habits?

Week 14!!!!
How do second marriages compare to first marriages?? Discuss courtship patterns, gender differences, preparation, motivation, and stability in re-marriage.
There really is no difference of a first marriage and a second marriage. The things that might effect a second marriage are; prior children; so then you have pay child support; prior spouses; alimony to the prior spouse if they did not have children; and step children rivalry. There are so many more effects to the second marriage by the first marriage.
Courtship patterns may be harder the second time around because you are out of practice and you may have children and they could effect how you choose who you are courting. Gender makes a difference when it comes to how soon they start dating and how many persons they are courting. Usually men court more women then when a woman is courting she only commits to one man. Also gender makes a difference when it comes to having relations. There may be questions if a second marriage will be stable for the rest of their life or it will fail like the first one did.
Motivation to find someone new after getting divorced would be so they would not feel so lonely and would find someone to be sexual with again. Preparation would be to warn your children of what is going on and also to make sure you have all the essentials for your dates to come. A divorce is hard and finding a new someone is even harder because you do not want to fail again.

Week 13!!!!
(b.) Compare the research presented on "her" divorce and "his" divorce. What do you think accounts for the gendered differences in this regard??
We will first look at “Her” Divorce, next “His” Divorce, and then we will talk about gender differences in this case. “Her” Divorce has two solution factors: the salary gap among females and males, and so the courts do not award the ex-husband to pay for alimony and also child support. Mutually females and males are unable to get alimony from their prior spouses. Since males have higher pay they are unlikely to get alimony from their spouses. In a divorce the courts will also look at the females contributions towards the whole lot and the future earnings of the male. Many females suffer in a traditional marriage because they loss status, identity, and their home which they put all their work into.
“His” Divorce often has a lot of rage, disturbing pain, unreliability, other debts, ongoing disagreement with the former spouse, and remarriage can often turn into noncompliances with a court-ordered child support. Males also fear negative response due to their prior marriage. Even though most males get more profit from a divorce then a female in areas such as; economically, they also familiarity dislocation of a fall apart.
Gender differences in a divorce often are created from females and males unlike experiences in the actual marriage. Each marriage contains two different marriages “Hers” and “His” they are very opposite and that are why there is a “His Divorce” and a “Her Divorce.”

Week 12!!!
I love the Dixie Chicks. I believe songs like “Good-bye Earl” do increase the awareness of domestic violence, but only for a brief amount of time. I think that when people are not involved with the problem of domestic violence people do not realize how serious it is. People do not want to be thinking how serious and scary it could be if domestic violence happened to them, even someone they love, or someone they know. I do not think that songs that address domestic violence do a disservice to people that want to raise social consciousness. I think that the songs help a little bi but not enough. We still need to increase the knowledge of domestic violence across the world in elementary school, middle school, high school, and college. Other wise children will not understand how serious domestic violence really is.

Week # 8
(b) given the combination of rising costs of weddings and the decreased stigma of cohabitation and pre-marital sex, do you think that marriage has become more of an luxury, or an option, than a required passage to adulthood??
I believe that marriage has lost its excitement over the years. I mean it is not a requirement in order to have relations or be with the one you love. You can do as you please. You can live with a man or women and not be married, cohabiting, or have a common-law marriage. You can just be living with a boyfriend or girlfriend that you enjoy being with.
Getting married has gotten too expensive. I mean there are ways to get around an expensive marriage. I mean unless you want a big one of course. The bigger the ceremony and reception the more expensive it gets. The smaller the ceremony and reception if you choose to have one the cheaper it is. I had a cheap wedding, all I had to pay for was my dress the pastor, and the wedding license. The total I paid on my wedding was two hundred dollars. I did not have a reception. My reception was my husband, a few friends, and I went to Red Lobster for dinner and our friends split the bill. It was a short but sweet ceremony. Just the way I like it. I mean every women has her dreams no matter how much it cost they will get what they want.

week 7!!!
(a) Your college roommate or close friend is seriously considering cohabiting with her/his partner and has come to you for advice. What major issues would you discuss with her/him?? Discuss the current demographic trends and characteristics of cohabitation as well as the advantages and disadvantages of cohabitation as discussed in assigned reading.
Some of the current demographic trends on page 228, chapter 7 of cohabitation have increased over the years with not only the opposite sex but the same sex as well. In 2000 some statistics was nine unmarried couples. Also for most people mainly among younger adults, cohabitation it has become a longer process of courtship. This has affected the attitudes of high school seniors.
I would tell my roommate that it is a great idea for him/ her to move in with her partner. I think you never know the real person until you have lived with them for an extended amount of time. I mean you may find things that you do or do not like about that person. You may also have to get used to each others routines. Everyone has different ways of doing things and this could help get organized together.

Week Six!!!
(a.) Go to the following website and check out the information on talking about sex with your kids. How does the advice given on this website compare to how you learned about sex?? How does the way that a person talks about sex to her/his children communicate attitudes about sex?? How does it communicate attitudes about sex in the culture??
I believe the technique only works for some families. My family was very open about the subject. We would all sit around the dinner table during dinner and talk about it all the time. It felt as if it became a ritual. That may be the reason why my brother, sister, and I never brought or boyfriends or girlfriends around. The friends we did bring over for dinner we had to warn them to make sure that they felt comfortable about the matter.
It depends on how they feel about sex and how clear the parent makes it. Such as if a parent is calm and rational but as soon as the child asks a question about sex they flip out the child may become scared to talk to there parents about it. But if a parent does not speak to there child about sex at all maybe there child grows up and does not think anything is wrong or anything will happen if they have sex. There are many ways to look at it. Different cultures and religions have different feelings about sex. Some cultures and religions do not think it is moral to have sex until they are married or have sex at all. Everyone learns about sex a different way. Everyone teaches sex a different way as well. Techniques of the matter are a persons choice and they should choose how to confront the issue before, during, and after, just to check and make sure nothing bad has happened to there child.

week five
My parents Meet at the Truckee Recreational park on the 4th of July, 30 years ago, at a barbque. It was not love at first sight. They were with a group a friends (not together) the two groups ran into one another and the guys asked the girls out on a date.(Never meet before that.) After they hung out for the rest of the day. For the most part they have common goals and common interest they are mostly family orriented.
When I was looking for a partner I was looking for; looks, personality, characteristics, how much we had in common, family life, how he was brought up, what he wanted out of life, what he wanted out of marriage, honesty, goals we had in common, and anything that would bring us closer in a relationship. I have shifted in what I wanted because when I was younger I was not looking for a partner for life. I was just looking for a partner for a short period of time. It was just someone to be with and to experiance things with. It helped me narrow down my expectations for my future husband. I found out what I liked and I did not like. What I wanted and what I did not want.

week four
I believe the valentines day is just another holiday to get people to spend money on one another. My husband and I do not have any traditions for valentines day we have tried to get a romantic night out or in but something always pops up like work or a deployment. Yes, I remember valentines day in elementry school. Thoose were the good old days. I mean during that day we wold have a party and exchange valentines presents.
I do think it is good practice for children. Even though, I believe the time that counts to get valentines is all through your life, because if you stop others will stop caring as well. I believe practice teaches us about love by showing others you care and other people care for you as well. It is not just about acceptence but showing people your true feelings whether it just be a friend, lover, mom, dad, or sibling its the thought that counts. I
I mean it is a great feeling when one day out of the whole year comes around and you can express your true feelings without being judged. I do not feel any pressure on this holiday because I know the people around me on the day know how I care about them, because I express it to them everyday. It is not like when I was back in high school and the coolest person got the most valentines presents. I like when you grow up!!!!

Gender
There are many toys in the world today that can be versatile to both “female” and “male”. I mean there are certain ways to play with other genders toys. For example: say you are playing with your younger brother with JI Joe and you have your Barbie dolls. There is roll playing going on. If a little boy does not have a sibling to role play with toys he is stuck doing it himself. Once you get older there are things to keep separately such as sports. For example: football and cheerleading. But other then that both genders in a certain degree can do whatever there mind takes them.
With house work and raising children it should be an equal task. So it teaches your children there is no right or wrong thing a man or women can or cannot do. Teach them that what ever they want to do they can do it. You should not hold them back in any way. I mean otherwise you may be teaching your children the wrong thing. The world is evolving and it should evolve in a good way, not back to when the men are greater then women. (Or so they thought.) The women can do whatever a man can do such as; go to war, shoot a gun, work, manage workers, and many other things.
It is a good thing that women are finally getting noticed for all the things we can do. I still believe there are some men that need a reality check but it will happen when a woman becomes president or they have a women boss. There are something’s that have changed the transsexuals, hermaphrodites, can now have surgery to fix there appearance to what they want thanks to plastic surgery.
What I consider “female” is feminine, sweet, polite, well mannered, care giver, loving, organized, creative, politically educated, compulsive, sensitive, independent, assertive, competitive, and educated. What I consider “male” is pig like, masculine, hairy, loves alcohol, manly, strong, educated, macho, authoritive, self discipline, think of themselves as a leader, athletic, creative, and horney. My view of gender has changed due to the fact the world is changing due to the fact the world is changing. I have also experienced the military and it helped me understand and appreciate a lot of things I did not when I was younger. I do not have a problem with today’s view on gender because it is becoming more equal then what it was.

Theoretical perspective
After reading the chapter I was quit in aw. I mean the whole time I could not belive that most of what I was reading was new to me. I like the fact that I do not know a lot of this subject. I wanted to learn more of familys in different situations and the different racies how they dealt with family sistuations. All cultures and racies are different and taught differently. With the theoretical perspectives the one I understode the most would be the developmental theory. The whole thing about the stages of marriage and family was quite clear and very right. I mean there might be somethings in the middle that are missing but mainly very true. The theoretical perspective that I understood the least would be the conflict theory. I do not think that the social structure and institutions in socieity are the only ways to get conflict in a family and marriage. I believe there are more then two ways to get conflict. But maybe it is someones perspective and not more then one persons perspective on the conflict theory. Over all the other theorys such as; functional theory, symbolic interaction theory, and family systems theory are all pretty self explanitory.

" About me"
Hello! My name is Sharron Cousin also known as Sharron Anderson. I was born and raised in Truckee, California. I have a ten moth old daughter, she was born on March 3rd, 2007 at 3:00am. Her name is Alexis Mari Cousin. My husband is currently in Afghanistan, he is in the US Marine Corps, he will be there for six to seven months. We met when I was in the US Army and we where both stationed in Hawaii. We were not on the same base but we met at a club right after I got back from a year and three months deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan. We were married on November 27th, 2005. I have currently been out of the military since December 15th, 2007. I am now a stay at home mom that is attending college here at Sierra in Truckee and I spend time with my daughter throughout the day. My husband and I are happily married but because of the military living in two different parts of the world is quite hard. That is one of the downfalls of marrying someone in the military. I am taking this class because I thought it would be interesting and very informative. I really want to get a feel from a different perspective and more educated people's perspective on family's. Maybe I can learn something from this class and put it to good use. My job was a 92-y which was a Unit Supply Specialist. My rank was a Corporal, which is a rank in between specialist and Seargent. I flew around to different fire bases and supplied other soldiers with basic needs. Such as; food, water, clothing, ammunition, bathing supplies, and many other supplies. It was a great experience but, I can honestly say that I never want to do it again or visit that country ever again. Third world is a horrible place to live and I feel sorry for those who do. I am glad the USA has what it has other wise we would have a lot of conflict in our country like their's. I learned never to take things for granted and I will always remember that. I will try and teach my children that but, somethings a person needs to learn on their own, just as we all have.
